Original pick: Gorgui Dieng (traded to Minnesota)

Solomon Hill is a very strange prospect. For starters, he is already 25 years old, and aside from Gorgui Dieng, that is unmatched in this class on the “old” side. Then, Hill’s fourth-year team option was (somehow) declined by the Pacers prior to his third season, and that inexplicably allows the combo forward to hit the free agent market a year early.

Also, we aren’t really sure if Solomon Hill is good at basketball.

If the second half of 2015-2016 is any indication, though, he is certainly is. Hill isn’t an awesome offensive player by any stretch, but he is a reasonably capable jump shooter (despite the 32.5 percent career mark from three) that does not take anything off the table on that end of the floor. Beyond that, Hill’s principle value comes on the defensive end.

At 6-foot-7, the former Arizona forward is big enough to handle most power forwards in the league, while simultaneously quick and agile enough to switch out on guards in pick-and-roll defense. Hill isn’t an elite defender right now, but the tools are there to be a greatly above-average one, and in a league that is increasingly valuing defensive versatility, he has it.

Solomon Hill’s NBA future will probably come down to just how well he can shoot the ball, but I always lean toward the side of defensive safety and I’m a fan.
. SF. Arizona. Solomon Hill. 21. player. 118
