5. Sacramento Kings

Shooting guard isn’t the deepest position for the Sacramento Kings. They have Ben McLemore, who hasn’t developed as hoped, and Marco Belinelli disappointed in year one of his deal. The Kings had drafted Nik Stauskas in 2014, but traded to him after just one season.

Now, Sacramento has to deal with the shooting guard position once again. This could make them an option for J.R. Smith.

The Kings could plug in Smith as the starting shooting guard and possibly give him a multi-year deal. They haven’t backed away from taking on an enigma like Rajon Rondo, so Smith could be an option here. Plus, owner Vivek Ranadive has been known for making curious decisions, which would include giving Smith a multi-year deal to be a starter, so this can’t be ruled out. The Kings aren’t a great defensive team as it is either, so don’t expect them to get that much better if he signs.

Smith going to Sacramento wouldn’t be the craziest idea, but where else could he land this offseason?
