3. Memphis Grizzlies

For years, an issue with the Memphis Grizzlies has been scoring. While their gritty style of play has gotten them into the playoffs on multiple occasions, it hasn’t gotten them far enough. They can’t keep up with teams that are prolific offensively, so it’s getting to a point where change is needed.

The Grizzlies are old at shooting guard. They are in possession of Vince Carter, who is a shell of his former self. Tony Allen is a defensive stalwart, but has never been known for his scoring ability. Lance Stephenson can’t be trusted either, so an addition is needed.

J.R. Smith is a volatile offensive player. He can be the hottest shooter in the league, or go ice cold for weeks. However, he’s someone that the Grizzlies need, someone that can go wild and score 20-plus points. Smith would make for a solid sixth man for Memphis and could spell Allen, who would start at shooting guard.

Signing Smith wouldn’t be typical of the Grizzlies, but with their style of play not doing them many favors, this would be a way of fixing it.
