High Salary SP

Max Scherzer-Washington Nationals (11,900): If you usually build your lineup with a big-name ace, Scherzer is your guy tonight. He fanned ten Padres in San Diego in his last outing but took a hard-luck loss despite allowing just one run on four hits in six innings.  He has at least ten strikeouts in three of his last four starts and strikeouts and wins are how you pile up huge points on FanDuel.

Tonight, Scherzer takes the mound in Milwaukee as he and the Nats take on the Brewers.  Last season, Scherzer faced the Brew Crew just once.  On a similarly timed trip, he pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout against the Brewers at Miller Park while striking out 16. With that win last year, he moved to 7-5, and with a win tonight he could improve to 8-5.  If you’re spending big on a pitcher, he would be my top pick despite the strain he’ll put on your salary cap as a whole.∗∗∗∗

Danny Salazar-Cleveland Indians (10,000): If you want a top-line pitcher at less than the almost 12K you’ll have to spend for Scherzer, Salazar is a nice alternative as he takes the mound against the Tigers in Detroit. Salazar and the Indians currently lead the AL Central by three games over KC and four games over Detroit, so this weekend’s series is key.

Salazar has found a killer changeup this season and has picked up a total of 96 strikeouts in 80.2 innings on his way to a 8-3 recored with a 2.23 ERA while holding opponents to an impressive .183 batting average.  Salazar has struck out at least seven batters in each of his last three starts (all wins), and will look to tame the Tigers in a similar way tonight.  He doesn’t have great career numbers against Detroit which is cause for concern, but his recent success is enough to earn him a look despite those numbers tonight. ∗∗

Aaron Sanchez-Toronto Blue Jays (9,100): Sanchez has at least six strikeouts in each of his last seven starts and has won six straight decisions to improve to 7-1 on the year. He typically gets plenty of run support, and will look to get another W as he takes the mound tonight in Chicago.  It’s actually a positive thing for Sanchez that he’s on the road since he is 5-0 with a 2.43 ERA away from Rodgers Centre (where he is 2-1, 4.79 ERA). This will be his first career start against the White Sox. He doesn’t have quite the strikeout ceiling that Salazar has, but I think he’s lower risk since he is in a safer matchup and has shown more consistency this season.
