Denver Nuggets – Assets and Flexibility

The Nuggets probably won’t be able to get into the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, but he certainly would have worse options around the NBA. Denver boasts a (very) young roster, a quality coach in Michael Malone and the salary cap flexibility to continue to build for the next few seasons.

From a roster standpoint, the appeal for Durant is mixed but intriguing. Nikola Jokic is one of the best young big men in the NBA, the Nuggets have a talented point guard with a real pedigree in Emmanuel Mudiay and there is depth across the roster. From a veteran standpoint, the best assets are Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler (sorry, Kenneth Faried) but Gary Harris is a great piece for the future in the backcourt and even Will Barton and Jusuf Nurkic are valuable.

Again, this is a big-time stretch, simply because Denver does not present the recent winning pedigree, the market size or the A-plus star already on board that Kevin Durant would be looking for at this stage. Still, he would bring immediate credibility to the table and Denver would be very, very scary from the moment he arrived at the Pepsi Center this fall.
