5. Portland Trail Blazers

One of the great surprise teams from last season was the Portland Trail Blazers. Although they got lucky facing teams riddled with injuries in the playoffs, the Trail Blazers proved they were for real and boasted one of the best young rosters in the league.

With two stud guards in Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, the Trail Blazers are one great big man away from being a serious contender in the Western Conference. While they had that guy in LaMarcus Aldridge, the Trail Blazers weren’t at the point that they were with their depth like they were now.

In many ways, Aldridge leaving opened up the cap space to build that depth. Now with the increase in the salary cap, the Trail Blazers can chase a big man like Al Horford. He would fit in perfectly because of how versatile he is and he could play either spot up front.

He’s a great teammate and he would immediately buy into what head coach Terry Stotts has built in Portland. Often when a team brings in a top player there is an adjustment period, but in Portland, they could keep on moving without skipping a beat.

Think of what they could do in the playoffs with a guy like Horford on their roster.
