The Memphis Grizzlies are going to do everything in their power to keep their excellent point guard Mike Conley this summer. Conley has been a massively important piece in the Grizzlies’ Grit N’ Grind era. However, the veteran point guard might see the writing on the wall with this declining Western Conference team and may seek a new club to play for in 2016-17.

Should that be the case, Memphis might then emerge as the best landing spot for any point guard on the free agency market. The Grizzlies already have three great veteran players in Tony Allen, Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph. New head coach David Fizdale will look to bring more balance to this defensive-minded team.

However, the Grizzlies needed to proceed with caution in signing Jeremy Lin. He’s a solid player, but may not fit into the ultra-physical culture of the Grit N’ Grind Grizzlies. Lin is a finesse player and not a particularly gifted one on the defensive end either. He’s a decent jump shooter, but isn’t going to replace Conley in the slightest.

Though he could be a decent space filler for the Grizzlies at the point until Wade Baldwin, IV is ready to be a starter, Lin is not going to get a lucrative contract with the small market Grizzlies and he’s more likely to bust than to succeed playing in Memphis going forward.
