5. San Antonio Spurs

Here is a wildcard of a choice for Hassan Whiteside if he’s willing to wait in free agency. The San Antonio Spurs have a meeting with Kevin Durant, but what if they are unsuccessful and don’t land the superstar forward?

Well, that doesn’t mean that they have to close up shop at all. If Whiteside still hasn’t signed by the time Durant has moved on from San Antonio, if he does, then why not take a look at Whiteside and consider building an unstoppable front-court with him and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Add in Kawhi Leonard at the small forward spot and the Spurs would suddenly have a young but dominant team up front, with the veteran Aldridge leading the way. Although Tim Ducan opted into his current deal, there is no guarantee that he is coming back and the Spurs have already prepped for life without him.

Whiteside has matured a ton over the last couple of years and he is no longer a chemistry concern in this league. With a coach like Gregg Popovich, he could become even better and perhaps take that next step as a dominant center in the NBA.

It’s highly unlikely, but it’s fun to think about what could happen.
