Boston Celtics: Make “The Deal”

The Celtics have more “assets” than just about any NBA franchise right now. By nature of the massive haul acquired in the trade that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn, Boston has its hands on Brooklyn’s 2017 and 2018 first round draft picks, and given that the Nets are set to be brutal again next season, those are valuable pieces. In addition, the Celtics just added a smorgasbord of draft prospects, and the current roster already boasts strong role players on favorable contracts.

Sadly, the Celtics still have not been able to make “the deal”.

Boston absolutely must package some of these assets to acquire at least one top-end player, as the Celtics simply don’t have that guy right now. Danny Ainge may have to overpay, but an addition of a player in the Jimmy Butler-DeMarcus Cousins mold would work wonders for Boston, and even a trade for a player like Kevin Love would make some sense.

As currently constructed, the Celtics aren’t a threat to win the 2017 NBA Championship, but they might be one move away. It just needs to be a big move that includes the addition of a superstar talent.
