High Value SP

Kevin Gausman-Baltimore Orioles (8,400): Gausman and the O’s look to even their series against the Mariners in Seattle tonight after losing late last night 5-3.  Gausman is coming off his best start of the year when he shut out th Rays for 7.2 innings allowing just four hits and no walks and struck out seven.  He picked up the win to move to 1-5 with a 3.93 ERA. He’ll look to keep things rolling tonight against the Mariners at Safeco, but his road splits are a little scary (0-4, 5.11 ERA).∗∗

Sonny Gray-Oakland Athletics (8,300): Gray has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts but his ERA for the season is still an ugly 5.03 after his early hammerings.  He only struck out three in his last start, but he definitely pitched well enough to win before the bullpen collapsed on him late. He had a solid, bounce back June but he still hasn’t fully found his true-ace form.  Tonight, he’ll start against the Pirates for the first time in his career, as the A’s look to build on their two straight series taking three of four from the Angels and Giants.

Colin Rea-San Diego Padres (5,500): If you really want to stack up the sluggers in your lineup, you could go ultra-cheap on your SP and roll with Rea.  There are some things to like about the Padres’ righty as he takes the mount tonight at Petco.  First, he’s at Petco which is definitely a pitcher-friendly park.

Rea has also shown some upside with at least five strikeouts in three of his last four outings.  He allowed three earned runes or fewer in three of his last four starts as well although he hasn’t had a lot to show for it.  He did get knocked around by the Marlins at home during that stretch, but he had strong starts against the Braves and Nationals.  Since the Yankees haven’t seen him and will have traveled across the country, Rea could be a sneaky-decent play that allows you to build a murderers’ row lineup.  He’s risky, but there is some upside to consider.∗∗
