Catcher

High-Salary Option: Victor Martinez-Detroit Tigers (3,600): Martinez went 1-4 with a walk and an RBI last night finishing June 27-95 (.284) with six homers and 11 RBI.  He will look to stat July with a boom tonight against lefty Drew Smyly who used to play for Detroit as well.  V-Mart is 23-69 (.333) against lefties this year with a .931 OPS.  He’s the catching option at the top of the salary structure that I trust the most as he looks to extend his current four-game hitting streak. ∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Cameron Rupp-Philadelphia Phillies (3,300): Rupp isn’t in a great matchup against Ian Kennedy, but he should return tot he lineup after a day off yesterday.  He comes into tonight’s game with a seven game hitting streak during which he has gone 9-28 with three homers and four RBI. Rump is 0-4 against Kennedy in his career but does have a pair of walks. He’s one of the more consistent hitting catchers at this price point right now, so roll with him at 3.3K tonight if you’re looking for a midrange option.∗∗

Mid-range Option: Evan Gattis-Houston Astros (3,000): Gattis and the Astros host the White Sox tonight who Gattis went 5-12 against in a  series earlier this season including a pair of homers.  He comes into this series 7-19 (.368) over the past week to raise his average to .227 for the year.  He has 12 homers and 33 RBI, so his power numbers have been decent despite his low average.  He has been hot lately, though, so look for Gattis to be a solid mid-range play against Miguel Gonzalez and the White Sox.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Kurt Suzuki-Minnesota Twins (2,500): Suzuki was an impressive 27-73 (.370) in June and had three homers to go with 14 RBI as well.  He splits slightly better at home and against lefties both of which are his situation tonight as he faces Martin Perez at Target Field.  He has hit safely in nine straight games and will look to continue his good production at a cheap price. ∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Tyler Flowers-Atlanta Braves (2,200): Flowers has been splitting time behind the plate with A.J. Pierzynski, but Flowers got the start last night against Wei-Yin Chen and made the most of it going 3-4 with three doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.  Flowers has hit safely in four of his last five games and could get the nod again tonight in a good matchup against lefty Justin Nicholino.
