5. Washington Wizards

This was a team that came up in free agent talks a season ago when Wade’s contract with the Heat was up. He ended up signing a one-year deal worth $20 million. Now that talks with Miami have gone sour, he could be looking at the Wizards as a possibility once again.

Washington was an intriguing destination last year. The Wizards were coming off a playoff appearance and an impressive 46-36 season which earned the fifth-seed in the postseason. Washington knocked off fourth-seeded Toronto in a clean sweep in the first round before getting bounced by top-seeded Atlanta in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games.

The future seemed bright in the nation’s capital, but the Wizards took a big step back in 2015-16, going just 41-41 and missing the playoffs. The team’s core remained the same, but it was clear they had a long way to go in order to make a serious run at the league title.

John Wall and Bradley Beal make up the two stars on the roster, but the latter is a free agent and the Wizards are going to have to put up some big money just to re-sign him. Depending on the cap space, they might not be able to get both and they already play the same position.

You have to think Washington will stick with the younger star and re-sign Beal, leaving Wade to pursue a different option. He would be better served on a team further along in the competitive process.
