According to Ben Kuzma, free agent forward Loui Eriksson has signed a six-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

After Steven Stamkos re-signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Loui Eriksson entered NHL free agency as one of the top forwards available. Eriksson benefited from the Stamkos re-signing, as it most likely helped him get an even bigger contract than he would have signed had Stamkos hit free agency.

According to Ben Kuzma, Eriksson has agreed to terms with the Vancouver Canucks on a six-year deal.

Eriksson should significantly help the Canucks. He is a legitimate top six forward who represents a huge upgrade to either the first or second line. No matter which line he plays on, he should have a huge impact. Eriksson is coming off a 30 goal season with the Boston Bruins and his 63 points during the 2015-16 season were his highest since the 2011-12 season. Eriksson’s high hockey IQ and skating ability should make him a valuable asset for at least the next three years assuming he stays healthy.

He was traded to the Bruins for center Tyler Seguin during the 2013 offseason. With Eriksson’s departure, the lone player remaining in Boston from the Seguin trade tree is forward Jimmy Hayes, who was traded for current Florida Panthers wing Reilly Smith, and defenseman Joe Morrow.
