An amazing final chapter to the D-Wade story

This probably goes without saying, but it is not currently en vogue to blaze your own path in the NBA. Superstars gravitate toward other superstars, which is why Kevin Durant is joining Stephen Curry.

Dwyane Wade knows this only too well. His successes as a member of the Miami Heat were always aided by the presence of another All-NBA talent, first with Shaquille O’Neal and later with LeBron (with Chris Bosh along just for good measure). It’s a completely defensible position to state that Wade has never been the man on a team for more than two consecutive seasons, and the results when he has have been mixed.

Heading to Denver would mean that Wade is tossing the current NBA narrative right out the window. Again, no one expects that the Nuggets, even with D-Wade, would be elevated to among the top four or five teams in the league. But with him, they’d have a chance to be relevant again, and that would be an amazing accomplishment, one to which he’s be able to lay nearly a unique claim.

The final pages of Wade’s career are about to be written. Will he write them in a way that is truly his own? We’ll only find out if he ends up in Denver.
