5. Sell High on Jean Segura

Arizona should explore trading infielder Jean Segura. They shouldn’t trade him just for the sake of it, but if they can get a good return for him, they shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Segura is a very talented player. However, his 108 OPS+ during the first half of 2016 is a career high. Maybe Segura is starting to turn the corner finally. Or maybe this is the perfect opportunity for Arizona to cash in on him.

There should be no shortage of suitors for Segura. The Pittsburgh Pirates should be interested in him due to the struggles of Jody Mercer and Josh Harrison. With Jung Ho Kang facing sexual assault allegations, the Pirates could use a bat like Segura’s. The Pirates have a number of good prospects. Arizona could benefit from adding someone like Jameson Taillon to their roster. Pittsburgh would have control over Segura through the 2018 season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who currently have no long-term plan at second base, would likely be interested in Segura as well. The Dodgers have a plethora of prospects who could help Arizona improve for the future. Arizona doesn’t have to trade Segura. They can see if they have caught lightning in a bottle with him. But it would be very unwise for them to not at least listen if teams are interested in him.
