MLB Trade Deadline: 5 best trades for Tyson Ross
5. Miami Marlins
The Marlins are in legitimate playoff contention. They hold the number two wild card spot currently. They are also only 5.5 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. While they may be in playoff contention, on paper this team still needs a bit more juice.
They already amped up the bullpen with the addition of Fernando Rodney, and now need to give attention to the rotation. The Marlins have had trouble finding another arm to go behind Fernandez in the rotation. They have also struggled to even fill out a five-man rotation that can stay consistent. Ross is nice because he is not just a potential rental. Ross can be a strong No. 2 behind Fernandez.
With the injury to Ross, the Marlins can try to trade for him on a bit of a discount. If he can come back and is healthy to close out this season it is great, but the Marlins have a young core, and having him in spring training next year will be huge.
They do not have too much coming up in terms of prospects so if they could secure Ross behind Fernandez in the rotation moving forward it would make this team potential playoff contenders for the foreseeable future.
Next: 4. Los Angeles Angels
