5. Orioles get Wade Miley

The Baltimore Orioles are currently neck-and-neck with the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays in a competitive American League East battle. That said, they added Wade Miley, a pitcher with a not-so-impressive 7-8 record and 4.98 ERA as he comes into their rotation. On paper, it looks like a low cost “rotation piece” for Baltimore, but fans may have wanted much more for their pitching staff.

This will make for the 29-year-old Miley’s fourth team in as many years, as he previously had stops in Arizona and Boston prior to his most recent season with Seattle. He’s only enjoyed a winning record his first two seasons with the Diamondbacks, and has been subpar at best since then, with his ERA steadily rising each of the past three years.

For Baltimore, this is considered one of the worst moves made ahead of the deadline, as they really could have used an ace to bolster their starting pitching in the thick of the playoff chase. It remains to be seen if Miley is able to provide them with some help to their rotation for a good number of innings. If he can provide them that much, it could end up paying some dividends — but don’t count on it.
