5 best landing spots for Yasiel Puig
By John Buhler
The Philadelphia Phillies aren’t by any means a good baseball team, but they have had a better season than expected in 2016. They won’t qualify for the National League Postseason this October, but seem to be on the right track in their rebuilding efforts.
That being said, the Phillies didn’t do anything at all to improve their future by selling of Major League assets for prospects before this MLB trade deadline. Standing pat with the roster they currently have was head-scratching to say the very least.
There are a few reasons why Puig to the Phillies could make sense. He’d form an interesting outfield tandem with All-Star Odubel Herrera and bring some excitement back to what is a fairly bland baseball team.
Given that Citizens Bank Park is a stadium that heavily favors power hitters, perhaps Puig’s offensive numbers will be inflated by playing 81 regular-season games annually for the Phillies in the middle of their lineup. Dodgers Stadium has been historically more of a pitcher’s park. Perhaps Puig can see a spike in his offensive production with regular playing time with the Phillies down the stretch?
Next: 4. Detroit Tigers.
