5. New York Mets

The New York Mets have long been the number two team on the totem pole in New York. Aside from 1969 and 1986, the New York Yankees have run the city, and it seems like the Bronx Bombers are always picking up Mets and turning their careers around. Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden are two prime examples of Mets royalty who went on to have their crowing moments in the Bronx.

Rodriguez would not be the first Yankees star to go and manage in Queens, as Yogi Berra and Willie Randolph have both led the Mets, to name a few. Despite the love fest that Rodriguez showed for Hal Steinbrenner during his press conference on Sunday, being forced to retire would definitely not sit well with an athlete of his stature. Winning a title in Queens would be a nice way to repay Hal for ending his career.

Mets’ owners, Fred and Jeff Wilpon want to sell tickets, and bring a name like Rodriguez in to manage the team would definitely put some butts in the seats. The current players do not seem to have much respect for Manager Terry Collins, who cannot even get Yoenis Cespedes to not play golf on game days when injured. Growing up in Miami, Rodriguez idolized Keith Hernandez, and was a huge Mets fan. Maybe he could lead them to their third World Series title.
