Georgia

The Atlanta Braves have dominated the Georgia sports scene for quite some time. Naturally, three of their best players headline the state’s Mount Rushmore. Chipper Jones dominated in the 1990’s and 2000’s, helping the Braves win 14 consecutive division titles. As a rookie, he helped them win the 1995 World Series. He is among their career leaders in games played, at bats, hits, runs scored, doubles, RBIs and home runs.

Hank Aaron is the “clean” MLB home run king and the Braves career leader in bWAR. Aaron is a Hall of Famer and is arguably the best baseball player of all time. Aaron spent nine of his 23 seasons with the Braves and had the best home run season of his career with the ball club in 1971, when he hit 47 long balls.

Greg Maddux was arguably the best pitcher in baseball for at least a decade. He might not have had the velocity of Roger Clemens or Randy Johnson, but he used pinpoint control to make batters look foolish. Maddux won four consecutive NL Cy Youngs, including three with the Braves.

Deion Sanders got his “Primetime” nickname from his time with the Atlanta Falcons. He helped put them on the map and also starred for the Atlanta Braves. Sanders is Alabama’s answer to Bo Jackson. If you want to imagine how great Jackson could have been at both football and baseball had he stayed healthy, Sanders is a pretty good place to start.
