Donte Moncrief-WR-Indianapolis Colts

One of my favorite fantasy football sleepers to target in the middle rounds of your drafts this year is Colts’ third-year receiver Donte Moncrief.  Many of the top receivers join the elite tier in their third season which has resulted in fantasy football experts recommending  you expect players to improve dramatically from their second to third year.  While I’m not 100% in on that strategy, I do think that Moncrief is set up for a huge season.

Last year, he was producing good numbers with Andrew Luck, but when Luck went down for the year in Week 9 bringing Moncrief’s production to a screeching halt. Moncrief did still set career highs in catches with 64, receiving yards with 733, and receiving touchdowns with six.

This year, Moncrief should pass all those totals pretty easily with a healthy Andrew Luck. Some beat writers have speculated that he could lead the team in receptions with T.Y. Hilton being the more “home run” threat used with less frequency but for deeper routes.

In the team’s Week 3 Preseason game, Moncrief caught all five passes that Andrew Luck threw his way totaling 52 yards in the first half.  He ended up with six catches for 58 yards in that game and eight catches for 83 yards during the preseason.

Moncrief has a high ceiling and could be a WR2 as the season progresses. He’s currently being drafted in the seventh round as a low-end WR3 after players like Golden Tate.  Moncrief is a great value to target at that point, and he would be a locked in starter if Hilton struggles with injuries like he has in the past.

He’s set up for a breakout season starting every game for Luck and the Colts.  I expect Indianapolis to quickly erase the memory of their struggles last year although their depleted running backs and defensive issue could result in plenty of passing.  All that throwing will make Moncrief a player you’ll want to have and a good draft day value.
