Heisman Performance of the Week: Georgia RB Nick Chubb

While other players in the country had Heisman worthy Week 1’s including Stanford Cardinal running back Christian McCaffrey, Houston Cougars quarterback Greg Ward, Jr., and Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett, Week 1 belonged to Georgia Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb.

In his first game back since tearing multiple ligaments in his left knee on October 10th in Knoxville, Chubb returned as the Bulldogs’ bell-cow back on Saturday evening with 222 rushing yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns.

This was Chubb’s second highest single-game rushing total of his Georgia career and the third time he broke the 200-yard plateau. Chubb has rushed for over 100 yards in 14 of his last 15 games, with the lone exception being in the Tennessee game last fall where he suffered his knee injury on the first play.

Many didn’t expect Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was going to use Chubb that much in his first game back, but Chubb didn’t tire at all on Saturday. His game-sealing 55-yard rushing touchdown on a sweep to the right was an early Heisman moment for the Bulldogs star junior tailback.
