The Redskins averaged 76,209 fans per home game last season, and that number may rise again this year as the team looks to repeat as NFC East champions.
They have added some weapons like Josh Norman and Josh Doctson. They placed a franchise tag on Kirk Cousins and extended the contract of Jordan Reed. Fans know that, especially with Tony Romo injured, the NFC East is not the strongest division, and once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen.
The most famous Redskin fans were the Hogettes, a group of fans who dressed up in dresses and pig snout in tribute to the offensive line in the 1980s and ’90s, nicknamed The Hogs. The offensive line got this nickname because of its ability to open up holes for the running back. The emergence of the running game won the Redskins three Super Bowls in that time period.
The Hogettes decided to retire in 2013 after 30 years of dressing up. Chief Zee, longtime Redskins fan and unofficial mascot, is known as the Redskins’ number one fan. He died recently and will be missed by the Redskins’ community.
This upcoming season means a lot to these fans and they will show up to FedEx Field with high hopes of repeating as NFC East champs and making a run deep into the playoffs.
