Tampa Bay Rays

Two small-market teams working together — what could be more beautiful?

The Rays have what the Twins need, and the Twins have what the Rays need. Minnesota is devoid of young pitching, while the Rays have a powerful lineup that is short on the ability to consistently make contact. For all their luck drafting and developing elite pitchers, Tampa Bay has really only developed one consistent All-Star on offense, Evan Longoria.

Blake Snell is an untouchable name as far as the Rays should be concerned, but perhaps Jake Odorizzi would interest the Twins. Right about now, the Rays are probably wishing they hadn’t traded Matt Moore for Matt Duffy. Duffy is a nice player, but he is never going to match Dozier in terms of power and run production.

The Rays do not have the financial flexibility to trade for many big names, but Dozier’s contract is team-friendly enough for Tampa Bay to afford. With plenty of high draft picks littering their farm system, the Rays have the prospects in place to give Evan Longoria another powerful bat who will not strike out quite as often as the rest of the team, which has the second-highest total in the league while also sporting the second-lowest batting average and on-base percentage.
