2. Josh McCown

The Cleveland Browns’ historic quarterback woes have continued into the 2016 season. They signed Robert Griffin III, thinking his injury-riddled past was behind him, to be their latest starter at the position. However, in Week 1, he fractured a bone in his left shoulder, and could miss the season. That left Josh McCown as the starter.

After just one game, the journeyman got benched in favor of rookie Cody Kessler. Former quarterback and converted wide receiver Terrelle Pryor even saw snaps in Week 3. So, McCown may be No. 3 on the depth chart.

Given his standing on the roster, McCown would be a cheap veteran option for the Jets to pursue, if they give up on Ryan Fitzpatrick. Acquiring McCown would give New York’s younger quarterbacks time to develop, and potentially take the starting job in 2017. McCown’s filled in as the starter for a handful of teams before, so this wouldn’t exactly be a diversion for the 37-year-old.

Among the cheap out-of-organization options, this may not be a bad call for the Jets to make. There is a second in-house option to consider, though.
