5 possible trade destinations for Alshon Jeffery
2. Houston Texans
Brock Osweiler’s ongoing struggles have coincided with a drop in production for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, while rookie wide receiver Will Fuller has fallen off the map after a good start to the season.
But the Texans are still leading the AFC South with a 4-3 record and a win over the Indianapolis Colts already in-hand, and their schedule gets easier over the next few weeks. With a second straight division title well within reach, the Texans could tentatively be looking to add some talent via trade.
Over his seven starts with the Denver Broncos last season, Osweiler benefited from having two top wide receivers in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. That has not been the case so far in Houston, even with easily visible chemistry issues with Hopkins and the learning curve of a new offense, and there is no other consistent threat in the passing game.
Jeffery would easily fit in Houston as a co-No. 1 wide receiver opposite Hopkins, and his presence could frequently give Hopkins a mismatch against an opponent’s second-best cornerback. Adding another proven wide receiver to help make Osweiler’s life easier has to be something the Texans are considering, either for now or next offseason. Making a trade for Jeffery with an eye toward signing him long-term is a perfectly viable move for general manager Rick Smith.
