Defensive Player of the Week: Michigan Wolverines S Jabrill Peppers

It’s hard to quantify the type of impact Jabrill Peppers has for the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan’s star safety/linebacker/running back/return specialist is everything for the No. 2 team in the nation.

College football hasn’t seen a guy that is as versatile as Peppers since his idol Reggie Bush starred for Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans over a decade ago. Peppers shined against in-state rival Michigan State on Saturday.

Defensively, he had seven tackles, four solo, two for a loss of yardage, and a quarterback sack. He had 23 yards in the return game on two attempts. Peppers would have five rushing attempts for 24 yards and a touchdown. He even had a catch from quarterback Wilton Speight.

However, the most impressive play was a two-point conversion return against Michigan State. It might end up being Peppers’ signature play in his Heisman campaign. He may not win the award as a defensive back, but he belongs in New York City as a finalist this December. Michigan is 8-0 (5-0) largely because of him.
