High Value PG

Elfrid Payton-Orlando Magic (5,400): Payton and the Magic host the Jazz tonight who may or may not have usual starting PG George Hill who is dealing with a finger injury. If Hill is out, Payton gets a good matchup against Shelvin Mack instead. Payton has had an up-and-down start to the year with at least 24 fantasy points in six of his eight games overall but two games under 16 fantasy points in his last three. Payton did look pretty good on Wednesday night, though, when he had 18 points and seven assists for 34.25 fantasy points against the T-Wolves. Payton is a little bit boom-or-bust, but if Hill is out he has enough upside to be worth his sub-6K price.

Marcus Smart-Boston Celtics (4,900): Smart has been pretty consistent lately even though Boston has been struggling. Smart had a season-high 20 points on Wednesday in the team’s loss to Washington and its as his fourth straight game with over 22 fantasy points. He always seems to produce fantasy points in one way or another. He doesn’t have a  super-high ceiling tonight against the Knicks but he should produce 20-30 fantasy points. ∗∗

Ish Smith-Detroit Pistons (4,700): Smith continues to start and fill-in for Reggie Jackson in the Pistons’ lineup. Smith had a horrible game against the Clippers on Monday with just 5.7 fantasy points as the Pistons were blown out, but he bounced back with a balanced 34.25 fantasy points against the Suns on Wednesday when he had nine points, seven assists, four steals, three rebounds, and two blocks. Smith has over 30 fantasy points in two of his last three games and that would be a great return again at under 5K. However, there is risk that tonight’s game turns into a blowout in San Antonio so Smith is a little bit of a risk. ∗∗

Austin Rivers-Los Angeles Clippers (3,300): Rivers has gotten some extra run due to all the blowouts lately, but he has consistently been one of the best options under 4K. He had nine points and five assists for 22.5 fantasy points against the Blazers giving him at least 15 fantasy points in three of his last four games and five of his eight contests this season. Rivers is the best option if you have to go super-cheap at one of your PG spots, but there are so many other options that I’d try to avoid that strategy if possible.
