Team of the Week: Western Michigan Broncos

They did it. The Western Michigan Broncos finished their 2016 college football season at a perfect 12-0 (8-0). Western Michigan knocked off the Toledo Rockets, 55-35, in Kalamazoo to reach the 2016 MAC Championship undefeated.

The only other team in Division I football that is 12-0 (8-0) on the season is the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide. Obviously Western Michigan doesn’t play the schedule of an Alabama, but going unscathed through the MAC isn’t easy. Neither is beating two Power 5 opponents in the Northwestern Wildcats and the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Western Michigan will Row the Boat all the way to Detroit to play the 8-4 (6-2) Ohio Bobcats in the 2016 MAC Championship Game at Ford Field on Friday night. Should the Broncos beat the Bobcats, Western Michigan will be the team out of the Group of 5 that will get the Cotton Bowl bid.

Wide receiver Corey Davis is going in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft pick. He is already the leading receiver all-time in Division I football history. Head coach P.J. Fleck may be coaching at a Power 5 school in 2017. For now, let’s take the time to appreciate all that Western Michigan has accomplished this football season.
