Heisman Performance of the Week: Clemson Tigers QB Deshaun Watson

We’ve been waiting for it all season, but Clemson Tigers junior quarterback Deshaun Watson finally had his 2016 Heisman Trophy game. He and the Tigers eviscerated the in-state rival South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday night, 56-7.

Watson completed 26 of 32 passes for 347 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception. His yards per attempt were an outstanding 10.8 and his quarterback rating was a near-perfect 94.2. He would also carry the ball five times for 19 yards.

Watson will go pro after his junior season at Clemson. He will have at least two more opportunities to add to his collegiate legacy: the 2016 ACC Championship Game in Orlando against the Virginia Tech Hokies and presumably the National Semifinals in the 2017 College Football Playoff.

If Clemson beats Virginia Tech like it should, Watson and the Tigers will almost certainly reach the College Football Playoff for a second straight season. The 2016 Heisman Trophy still belongs to Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson, but Watson should finish as either runner-up or in the top three.
