High Salary PG

Russell Westbrook-Oklahoma City Thunder (12,600): It’s crazy that Westbrook costs this much but is still worth a look since he delivers huge stat lines almost every night. He has posted three straight triple-doubles with over 60 fantasy points in each of his last seven games. On Monday, he finished with 27-18-14 (points-rebounds-assists) for 76.5 fantasy points against the Knicks. Tonight, he’s back at home where he’ll face the Wizards and John Wall. Westbrook needs to get almost 65 to return full value, but since he has been doing that with such regularity he’s worth a look tonight if you want to build your team around his huge salary-cap hit.∗∗∗

John Wall-Washington Wizards (9,300): On the other side of that matchup is John Wall who costs over 3K less than Westbrook, but could end up being the better points-per-dollar play. The Thunder have been a good matchup for opposing PG all season and the are currently allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to opposing point guards. Although the Wiz were trying to be careful with Wall’s minutes after offseason knee procedures, he has been playing a heavy workload lately with at least 37 minutes in five straight games. In those five games, he is averaging 23.6 points, 9.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.2 steals. He has posted at least 50 fantasy points in four of his last five games. On Monday, Wall played a season-high 43 minutes finishing with 19-8-11 against the Kings, but a season-high 11 turnovers limited him to 50 fantasy points. Against the Thunder, I actually think he makes more sense at this price than Westbrook does at over 12K.

Isaiah Thomas-Boston Celtics (7,600): It looks like the Celtics will have their full rotation back tonight after Al Horford missed the team’s win on Monday in Miami. IT4 helped pick up the slack for Horford finishing with 25-4-8 for 44.5 fantasy points. Tonight, he’ll teak on the Pistons who he faced just 11 days ago when he put up an almost-matching 24-4-8 and 44 fantasy points. Thomas should return right around full value tonight as he takes on Ish Smith.

Eric Bledsoe-Phoenix Suns (7,600): Bledsoe could be overlooked on a crowded board of options, but he is playing extremely well and coming into a great matchup. Tonight, the Suns host Atlanta who is allowing the third-most fantasy points per game in the NBA to opposing PG. Bledsoe has posted over 27 fantasy points in five straight including three games over 50 fantasy points and a season-high 60 fantasy points against Denver on Sunday in his most recent game. In that contest, Bledsoe had 35-6-6 with two blocks and two steals. He makes a great option at this price and is one of the hottest players in the league in addition to getting one of the best matchups.

Jeff Teague-Indiana Pacers (7,000): Teague continues to run the Pacers offense without Paul George around to carry the offensive load. On Sunday, that didn’t lead to big fantasy production since the Pacers were blown out by the Clippers. He did still manage 30.5 fantasy points in 24 minutes, but he fell short of the 35 fantasy points which he had scored in his six of his previous seven. He’s a good play tonight against Portland who is allowing the second-most points per game (113.7) in part due to the up-tempo style which could result in a track meet in the Pacific Northwest tonight.

Derrick Rose-New York Knicks (6,500): Rose has stepped up lately for the Knicks and had a season-high 30 points on Monday in their loss to Westbrook and the Thunder. He had 44.25 fantasy points in that contest on 30-7-4 giving him at least 36 fantasy points in four of his last six games. He’s playing well and in a good matchup as New York visits the badly struggling Timberwolves.∗∗
