5 NFL teams that should draft Baker Mayfield in 2018

Before the Houston Texans think about drafting another quarterback in the middle rounds of yet another NFL Draft, maybe owner Bob McNair should think about getting a new general? Probably someone who would give an unproven career backup like Brock Osweiler $72 million before even speaking with head coach Bill O’Brien.

O’Brien is a supposed quarterback whisperer, but are we sure he and Osweiler aren’t just reading coloring books at this point?

Houston does seem to really like one of its backups in collegiate journeyman Tom Savage. He might eventually press a mediocre Osweiler for the starting job. That being said, Savage is far more unproven that even Osweiler was in Denver.

Mayfield to the Texans in the mid-to-late rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft makes some sense. He would have time to develop in O’Brien’s offense and the Texans play in a dome which favors Mayfield’s skill set as a passer. People in Texas like to see their quarterback throw the football. It’s only a matter of time before the Texans faithful turn on the 6’7″ side-arm-slinging Osweiler.

Like Savage, Mayfield would be a developmental project for O’Brien and his offensive staff. However, one would like to think that Mayfield could pass every test the Houston playbook throws his way. If Mayfield wants competition — and frankly, he needs it– Houston would be the best landing spot for him because they may need a new quarterback, play in a dome and is a southern city with no harsh winters.
