Reactions pour into Twitter following the death of “Growing Pains” dad, Alan Thicke.

This year hasn’t been the year of the celebrity. It doesn’t matter if the individual was a professional athlete (Jose Fernandez), a member of Hollywood (Florence Henderson) or a part of the science elite (John Glenn). More than a handful of top-tier talent have fallen and it just seems to add on as the year progresses. This time, the life cycle took another celebrity away from the world, Alan Thicke.

Most notably, Thicke would go on to play the role of Mr. Seaver in Growing Pains, which also starred Kirk Cameron and Joanna Kerns. After Growing Pains, Thicke moved on in Hollywood, mostly as an extra in The Bold and the Beautiful and How I Met Your Mother.

By amounting to so many years on the big screen – 47 years, to be exact – Alan Thicke rightfully gained some respect from his colleagues. Since the news broke of his death at 69, some of them – and others – expressed their sadness, including Fuller House‘s Lori Loughlin.

Another popular memory of the 90s, Will Friedle, jumped in to share his thoughts. Friedle played Eric Matthews, Cory’s brother, in Boy Meets World.

It wasn’t just the respect and love he had in entertainment. Thicke was also an avid hockey fan, and he even appeared on the Rich Eisen Show just last week.

Again, without any doubt, 2016 has been a hard pill to swallow in terms of losses. It’s been a rollercoaster of a year that most people would like to forget. And as the New Year approaches soon, we all hope for some better news. As for Alan Thicke, he was America’s dad and he will be greatly missed not just for his on-screen performances, but his appetite for sports and humor. Rest in peace, Thicke.
