2017 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks rule all
By Brad Weiss
The San Diego Chargers have been better than advertised this season, and it looks like they have some nice young players on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Philip Rivers is a veteran leader at the position, and if the team can get a healthy Keenan Allen back next season, they should at least be able to challenge for a wildcard in the AFC. Their defense has played very well in spurts, and despite all of the injuries, they have been competitive each week.
San Diego’s defense is loaded with young talent, including players like Denzel Perryman, Joey Bosa, and Jatavis Brown. Those players have done a nice job protecting against the run and getting after the quarterback, but the team needs help in the secondary. Bringing a quality safety is going to be crucial for the Chargers, and LSU’s Jamal Adams is the best of this class.
Adams has the size and speed to be an impact player in the secondary, and is not afraid to come up and make the big hit. The Chargers have a history of being weak in the defensive backfield, and the loss of Eric Weddle depleted an already susceptible unit. Adams would give the team their best player at the position since Weddle, and would continue to add to a good young defense.
