Deshaun Watson

QB, Clemson

The San Francisco 49ers desperately need a franchise quarterback to build around in 2017, and you can be sure that whoever the new general manager and head coach are will want to make a splash with the No. 2 overall pick. While plenty of critics are skeptical about Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, he might be the most natural fit for the 49ers.

Watson has been a proven leader for the Tigers, leading the team to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He has all of the arm talent in the world to make any throw that he’ll need to in the NFL while also possessing the mobility to extend plays with his legs.

While some point to Watson’s frame as a limitation (6-foot-3, 215 pounds), my biggest problem with the Clemson quarterback is his tendency to stare down his No. 1 receiver. Instead of going through his reads, Watson tends to either force throws or take off with his legs if his first read isn’t open, and that’s not something he can get away with doing at the pro level.

Still, Watson is the most talented quarterback prospect in this draft class with the resume to back it up. With Watson running the 49ers offense, things could start trending in the right direction for this team.
