The NHL forgot to give Brett Hull and Bobby Hull pucks before their ceremonial faceoff prior to the 2017 Winter Classic.

For the ceremonial faceoff to start the 2017 Winter Classic, the NHL trotted out arguably the best players from the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues respectively. Perhaps there is no more famous family in NHL history than Bobby Hull and his son Brett Hull. The father starred for the Blackhawks while his son starred for the Blues.

There’s just one tiny problem. The NHL, in spectacular fashion, forgot the most important part to a ceremonial faceoff. That’s right, they forgot to give the Hulls pucks.

Sort of hard to do a ceremonial faceoff without any pucks. Whose fault was it? Let’s just blame the league. Maybe the Hulls should have came out with pucks. But considering they didn’t, it probably wasn’t their responsibility to provide the pucks.

Aside from the brain fart before the ceremonial faceoff, the NHL did an excellent job preparing for the 2017 Winter Classic. The pregame entertainment was excellent and appropriate, as St. Louis native Nelly gave a performance before the game at Busch Stadium. They even managed to let Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats perform during the first intermission.

The game got off to an almost historic start, as Blackhawks defenseman Michal Kempny scored the second fastest goal in Winter Classic history. His goal came just 62 seconds into the game. Only Colby Armstrong has a faster goal during a Winter Classic, and his came in the first one back in 2008. It’s also the first lead the Blackhawks have had in an outdoor game in quite some time.
