Watch the Star series premiere live, on TV or online

Fox’s new musical drama series, Star, will premiere tonight, but what’s it about, where can you watch it, and when does everything start?

This one’s basically been a long time coming. Although Empire may no longer be quite as strong as it once was in the ratings, it’s still a behemoth in its third season. Why wouldn’t Fox want to build on that by releasing another musical drama that comes partially from Lee Daniels?

Don’t answer that question, because Fox has already greenlit a second series. Enter Star. Check out the trailer below:

Our protagonist is, unsurprisingly, named Star. This almost certainly won’t become confusing at any point at all, right? She has a sister, named Simone (way less confusing). Both of them start the series out in the foster system, but Star picks Simone up and moves the two of them to Atlanta. There, they’re joined by Star’s friend, Alexandra. The three of them have dreams of forming a new girl group. (There’s the musical accompaniment.) Perhaps the biggest name in this cast is Queen Latifah. She plays Carlotta, who takes the girls in and gives them employment in her hair salon. Benjamin Bratt also appears as a talent agent.

Right now, early reviews say that Queen Latifah is also the standout of the series, which currently ranks at a 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. (Ouch.) However, Fox has pushed this series relatively hard, which means that it probably has a pretty long leash. In fact, the premiere has been made available on on-demand services already in case you don’t have time to watch.

But for many of us, there’s still something about watching a show live with others, whether that be at home or on social media. Get those tweeting fingers ready.
