Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Last week: 1-2
Last rank: N/A

After being expected to be one of the worst teams in the ACC, Georgia Tech wasn’t done any favors by the schedule. Their conference slate started off with three of the best teams in the country, playing UNC, Duke, and Louisville back-to-back-to-back. They started off strong with a stunning upset of the Tar Heels, winning 75-63. What followed was not so pretty as they lost by 53 at Duke and then by 15 at home against Louisville. After those performances, taking down Roy Williams’ team at home looks a lot like a fluke, though without having played anything other than elite competition it is tough to tell. Tech gets their shot to prove where they fit this week as they play two middle-of-the-pack ACC squads in Clemson and NC State. The results of those games could go a long way to shaping the ACC standings down the road, so Josh Pastner needs to have his team ready for the big week.

Pittsburgh Panthers

Last week: 1-2
Last rank: N/A

After losing longtime coach Jamie Dixon to TCU, many expected the Panthers to struggle in Kevin Stallings’ first season. Behind his two stellar seniors Jamel Artis and James Young, Stallings has kept the team on track and that culminated with an overtime win against Virginia this week as Artis and Young combined for 43 of the team’s 88 points. After narrowly losing their ACC opener to Notre Dame, it was good for Pitt to pull out a result in their favor. Unfortunately they followed up the pair of thrillers with a stinker in losing by double-digits at Syracuse. While the performances against ranked teams like Notre Dame and Virginia were encouraging, they are going to need to play better than they did against Syracuse if they want to compete. This week, they’ll look to get back on track by traveling to Louisville in a big game for them. If they can’t get that win, they’ll look to take down lesser foes Miami and NC State in the days after.
