Loser: Baylor Bears (No. 1 down to No. 6)

OK, so it’s not a huge loss, but the Baylor Bears were the nation’s top-ranked team last week and then took a bit of a dive after losing to West Virginia. The Mountaineers owned the Bears in the Week 10 meeting in Morgantown and it ended in a 21-point defeat for Baylor.

In the first game after being dubbed the new No. 1 team in college basketball, the Bears faltered and that caused them to fall to No. 6 this week. It was Baylor’s first loss of the season, but after constant climbing all year long with wins against Oregon, Michigan State, Louisville and Xavier, this was quite the step back.

All the hard work from the first couple months of the season was wiped away by a single loss — okay, not completely wiped away since they’re still a top-10 team. However, it is disappointing to only hold the No. 1 spot for a week — heck, barely even a couple of days — before getting knocked down a few pegs.

The Bears are still 16-1 on the year and don’t play Kansas for a couple of weeks, but they have to make sure that this loss doesn’t snowball into more. Sometimes when a team experiences its first loss, it crumbles. Beating No. 25 Kansas State on the road over the weekend was a nice rebound, though.
