3. Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers have been searching for rim protection to aid their 27th ranked defense, and if they’re not keen on giving up assets for aging veterans like Tyson Chandler or Andrew Bogut in a trade, Larry Sanders represents an alternative solution that wouldn’t cost the team a thing.

Though Sanders would have to shake off the rust pretty quickly to help a team that’s currently one game out of the playoff picture, he could wind up being what the Blazers hoped Festuz Ezeli would be: a rim-protecting center on a cheap contract.

Rip City is all in on the playoffs after spending the offseason overpaying to keep a young team intact, so adding a veteran rim protector like Sanders might help them grow internally and make that final playoff push.

Sanders would probably get fliers from more competitive teams and perhaps even contenders, so it’s unclear if any potential interest from Portland would be reciprocated. That being said, if the market for Sanders’ services winds up being drier than anticipated, this is one destination that would make sense to keep the comeback dreams alive.

Portland would have to clear out a roster spot since it already has 15 players on its roster.
