Wave 1 Comic Book Figures

While it remains to be seen if any of these characters will show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all of them are either friends or teammates of the Guardians in print. The gent with Captain America’s shield is Vance Astro, a member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from 1000 years in the Marvel Universe’s future. The shield can be attached to his wrist or stored on his back.

Angela is heavily armed, as is her wont, with two axes and a sword that can be stashed in its scabbard. Her belt slides around a little but won’t fall off, and while her feet look small, I had no problems standing or posing her.

Nova is the current hero to bear that name, young Sam Alexander. As the smallest figure in the wave (Sam is just a teenager, after all), he was trickier to pose. However he also has one of the more attractive paint jobs, with the matte blue of his costume/uniform a nice contrast to the shinier gold parts.

Last but certainly not least, Darkhawk is the figure most likely to make fellow comic book fans go, “No way!” His wings are nicely implemented, which is only right — not much point in doing Darkhawk without those.

Build-A-Figure Titus

I admit it: I had to consult the internet to learn about Titus, and I consider myself a pretty big Marvel Comics fan. The problem was I hadn’t read the right books, as Titus is a villain from vol. 5 of Nova. He’s also appeared in several of Marvel’s animated series.

Honestly, though, you don’t really need to know who he is to appreciate this figure. Like other Legends Build-A-Figures, Titus is one impressive piece of plastic, and fairly easy to pose despite his size and the weight of his weaponized arm. Plus a cybernetic, anthropomorphized white tiger is just cool regardless.

All told, there’s something in this first wave of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Legends Series figures for everyone, whether you’re hunting just the crew from the movie or want to dive deeper into the group’s comic book lore. These figures should be available in stores in late February or early March, in plenty of time to give your collection an upgrade before the movie blasts into theaters on May 5.

As the tagline for the first movie said, you’re welcome.

Disclosure: FanSided was provided with a complementary set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Legends Series wave 1 figures by Hasbro for the purposes of this review.
