5 players who will take advantage of the NBA trade deadline
Darren Collison is on his way out of Sacramento. To where and for whom is still a question, but with the somewhat steady play of Ty Lawson, the Kings are looking to ditch their assets and Collison is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. With Collison only being 29-years-old, is one of the few useful piece outside of DeMarcus Cousins.
Collison isn’t having a bad season. Shooting 48 percent from the field and 42 percent from deep, Collison could step into a 6th man role anywhere he goes. Depending on which team he’s sent to, he could be looking at a team headed for a Finals run.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been looking for a backup point guard. Collison may be the guy LeBron and the Cavs are looking for, and as Kyrie Irving’s backup, Collison can step into a role much better than splitting time with Ty Lawson for the Kings.
His minutes may drop, but his usage will remain the same. Instead of trying to be an impact player for a team headed nowhere, he’ll be a role man for a team in desperate need of some quality talent coming off the bench. Another option for Collison is the Washington Wizards. They’ve been searching for productivity in their second unit all season. Adding Collison to come off the bench would be a huge jump in talent.
The Kings are only two games out of the eight seed and would love nothing more than to end their playoff drought. But if they believe trading Collison would add the assets needed to make the jump, they’ll send him packing.
He’ll be taking a step down if he leaves the Kings. The team he’ll end up with will be much better than a struggling eight seed, though.
