Senior night is a day no player likely ever forgets. For Indiana senior forward Collin Hartman, he will remember it for more reasons than one.

On Saturday night after the Indiana Hoosiers stormed back to beat Northwestern, 63-62, Indiana held its customary Senior Night ceremony after the game. Hartman has missed the entire season due to a knee injury. He could redshirt, but unsure of what his future holds, Hartman decided to go ahead and celebrate his college career.

In a heartwarming speech, Hartman teared up thanking his family members in attendance and the fans that struck around through the end of the ceremony. He called his girlfriend, an Indiana cheerleader, down from the stands and remarked how much he loved her.

Then, he proposed, getting down on one knee (likely the one that’s not injured).

Cynics will say Hartman’s proposal overshadowed senior day for the rest of the seniors, but actually, he is the only senior on the team. This ceremony was already all about Hartman. If his college career is indeed over, what a way to go out at his home court.

The senior played 35 games last season and averaged 5.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.3 blocks while playing 21.9 minutes per game. Over his entire career, Hartman has played 83 games and averaged 4.1 points per contest.

Indiana erased a eight-point deficit with 3:11 to go in order to come back and defeat Northwestern by one. The victory snaps a five-game losing streak for the Hoosiers and keeps their very, very slim chances of an NCAA bid alive.

Indiana will finish the season on the road at Purdue and Ohio State. The Hoosiers must win those games for their resume, but even then, they will only finish 8-10 in conference play. It will likely take a Big 10 tournament championship in order to earn a spot in the NCAA bracket.
