3. Safety

Like cornerback, the Rams will most likely be hoping to retain their own. However, just like cornerback, it will come with a price tag they may be uncomfortable paying. T.J. McDonald is the safety free agent and will be a major question in the Rams’ front office.

McDonald had a poor year by his standards. However, he has some name value, and in a free agent pool that does not have too much to offer in the middle tier, someone could jump in and overpay him to attract him away from Los Angeles.

Mo Alexander has been a fine compliment to McDonald, but there is little depth behind him if any at all. They could flirt with pushing Joyner out to safety, but that would just increase the dire need to hit the cornerback position. Either way, it is safe to assume that this team will be exploring all options when it comes to revamping the secondary.

Barry Church would be a great fit if they are looking to acquire a safety. He may come at a similar price to McDonald and would blow McDonald away in terms of production and ability. The draft is obviously another option here, but if the Rams lose McDonald they have to find someone who can step in and start right away.
