The defensive front-seven players ran the 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine. Here is how the defensive linemen and linebackers did in the 40.

Day 6 of the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine was full of excitement. Only the defensive players remain in Indianapolis, but don’t worry, they did not disappoint. In their final day of work at the scouting combine, the defensive linemen and linebackers showed what they had on the Lucas Oil Stadium carpet.

Yes, the defensive front-seven players got to show the NFL scouts how fast they are by running the popular 40-yard dash. Initial quickness is more important that 40-yard speed for defensive linemen. However, 40-yard speed could be important in evaluating if a linebacker can factor in pass defense.

Here is how the defensive front-seven players did at the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine.

Other notable times from the defensive linemen’s 40-yard dash include Tennessee’s Derek Barnett at 4.88, Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett at 4.64, and Auburn’s Carl Lawson at 4.67.

Seven defensive linemen did not run at the scouting combine. A few of those notable absences included Florida State’s Demarcus Walker, Clemson’s Carlos Watkins, and Michigan’s Chris Wormley.

Two of the linebackers eclipsed the 4.60 threshold in the 40-yard dash. Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers ran the fastest time for linebackers at a 4.46, but identifies himself as a safety. LSU’s Duke Riley ran an impressive 4.58 in his 40-yard dash.

Other notable 40 times include Vanderbilt’s Zach Cunningham at 4.67, Ohio State’s Raekwon McMillan at 4.61, and Wisconsin’s T.J. Watt at 4.69. Eight linebackers didn’t run the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine. Some of those absences include Clemson’s Ben Boulware, Alabama’s Reuben Foster, and Tennessee’s Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
