NFL Network’s Rich Eisen ran the 40 again, in what has become one of the best things at the combine.
It surely started as a bit of a gimmick, captured covertly by the behind the scenes crew, when NFL Network’s Rich Eisen first ran the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Comparing his run to those of the participants is always fun every year, even though Eisen never tops even the slowest runner.
Eisen’s 40-yard dash at the combine has taken on a cool charitable and fan engagement aspect now, with donations made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and fans able to post videos of their own 40-yard dashes with the appropriate Twitter hashtag #RunRichRun.
Eisen ran his 40 for the 2017 combine on Sunday, and it aired on Monday once the final position group (defensive backs) was done on the final day of the event.
Here’s the clip of Eisen’s run, intensely and meticulously timed by colleague Mike Mayock.
NICE WORK, @RichEisen! 👏

Eisen posted a 6.02 40, which was a bit slower than he did in 2016. As for some comparisons to this year’s participants, here’s how Eisen compared to the combine record 4.22 40 posted by wide receiver John Ross and then the run of 361-pound offensive lineman Zach Banner.

It obviously does not matter how fast Eisen runs in a suit and dress shoes, though it may only be a matter of time before he runs faster than some big offensive lineman draft prospect. The charitable donations are important, and after a few days of mostly boring on-field positional workouts Eisen’s annual 40 is high anticipated, must-see television.
