2017 NFL Combine: 10 players who hurt stock
By John Buhler
2017 is not the year of the quarterback in the NFL Draft. Yes, there are a few guys that will end up getting overdrafted and go in the first round. Not to say that there aren’t good quarterbacks in this draft, but we’ve seen a better group of signal caller prospects before.
One guy that offers some intrigue as a passing prospect is Virginia Tech Hokies quarterback Jerod Evans. He came into Blacksburg for one year and helped the Hokies get to the ACC Championship thanks to his great dual-threat play at the position.
The problem at the combine is that Evans didn’t demonstrate a great pair of wheels. He ran a solid 4.80, but Mitch Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, and Davis Webb all ran faster times than him. Trevor Knight and Joshua Dobbs ran very well as expected, but Evans did not.
The ability to extend plays with his legs is a big part of what could help Evans stick as a backup in this league for years. However, it doesn’t seem that he’ll be in the NFL longer than one rookie contract.
