Jonathan Allen

DL, Alabama

Some people believe that Jonathan Allen may be the most NFL-ready prospect in this draft class, and that statement is hard to argue. Allen is an absolute beast on the defensive side of the ball, and he is going to be an incredible player at the next level. The big lineman from Alabama has the ability to stop the run, as well as get the edge in the passing game, making him a complete player along the defensive line.

The Chicago Bears could definitely go quarterback here, but we feel that Allen would be too good to pass up at No. 3. There is a real possibility he could be gone by the time the Bears hand in their card with their pick on it, so bringing in a player who will be a cornerstone for the defensive line has to be a priority. Chicago plays in a division where you need to get pressure on the quarterback, and Allen will be able to do that during his rookie season.

The odds are that the Bears will look to bring in a veteran quarterback next season, while waiting to select one of the more franchise-type arms in the 2018 NFL Draft. They already let star wide receiver Alshon Jeffery walk, so do not expect the Bears to have a great turnaround next season. They do have a fine young running back in Jordan Howard, so if they can bolster the defense this offseason, they should at least be more competitive next season.
