Houston Texans

AFC, South

The Houston Texans have a great defense and a solid coaching. Houston should be a viable contender to win the AFC South again and push for Super Bowl contention. However, their biggest problem is a tire-fire of a quarterback situation set up by a dysfunctional front office.

Maybe the Texans can pay slightly less than what they did to sign Brock Osweiler last summer to bring Cutler aboard? One could argue that Cutler could play like he did with the 2010 Bears, that team he led to the playoffs. Chicago had a great defense that year. Houston should have a solid one at that again next year.

Cutler has the arm strength to routinely find DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller on vertical routes. Lamar Miller should alleviate the burden on Cutler, as he is a strong running back behind him. Cutler has more touch on his passes than does Osweiler and substantially better pocket presence than Tom Savage.

Houston head coach Bill O’Brien has led his team to the AFC Playoffs the last two seasons yet remains on the hot seat. Gambling on Cutler may actually be worthwhile. The AFC South isn’t as strong at quarterback as is the NFC North. Frankly, wouldn’t Cutler to the Texans make them the favorites to three-peat in the AFC South?
