2017 NFL Draft: Indianapolis Colts 7-round mock
The Colts have to be on a mission to protect Andrew Luck. Last season, they started that mission through the draft, when they took Alabama center Ryan Kelly in the first round. Kelly, combined with Anthony Castonzo and Jack Mewhort gives the Colts are starting to building something. However, the right side of their offensive line is an absolute mess.
Feeney likely has first round talent, but being limited to playing guard, and most likely right guard will diminish his value. However, what the Colts are getting with Feeney is a guy who plays with an edge. He finishes plays, he plays angry and he plays violently. Feeney may not be the best mover or blocker in space, but these characteristics make him a high floor player and a guy who can start immediately.
The Colts best bet to start a foundation on their line is to build it up inside out. It will help in a major way in the run game and will take the defenders extra time to get to Andrew Luck. Feeney is great value in the second round and continues the development of young, high-upside early draft picks from Indianapolis on the offensive line.
